The Art of Hand-Launching and Landing Your Drone

Taking off and landing a drone by hand can be a bit intimidating for new drone pilots, but with a few tips, it can be a breeze. In this post, we'll go over some key steps to help you take off and land your drone smoothly and safely.

Firstly, it's important to note that the drone I am using is a small Mavic Air (as well as the DJI Mavic mini 2), which doesn't have large legs or feet. For takeoff, it's important to find a flat surface with very few rocks or high grass to help ensure that the takeoff is smooth and free of any complications. But finding that kind of environment can sometime be tricky because, as I said, it is a tiny drone.

Hand-Launching procedure

To begin, program the GPS point on your phone and prepare to take off as you normally would. However, instead of launching the drone from the ground, hold it gently in your hand and release it slowly. At first, it may feel strange to release the drone in mid-air, but with practice, you'll quickly become more comfortable with this method of takeoff.

Once your drone is in the air, it's time to capture some stunning images. Take your time and enjoy the view from above. And don't forget to follow all the necessary drone flying regulations in your area.

Now let's talk about landing.

Landing a drone by hand is not much more complicated than taking off. Underneath the drone, there are sensors that detect the distance to the ground. To land your drone safely, simply hold your hand underneath the drone and slowly bring it down. When the sensors detect that the drone is close enough to the ground, it will land softly in your hand.

It's important to make sure your hand is flat and positioned carefully, so that you don't accidentally get hit by the blades. Safety should always be your top priority when flying a drone, and taking the necessary precautions will help ensure a smooth and safe landing.

Conclusion

In conclusion, taking off and landing a drone by hand may seem like a daunting task, but with these tips, you'll be able to do it safely and smoothly. So, the next time you're out flying your drone, give it a try and see how it goes. Happy flying!
